The Company

Our client is a leading construction company operating across the South West and South Wales and nationally for strategic customers. They are specialist constructors in Retail, Distribution, Education, Local General Contracting and Social Housing employing in the region of 400 staff.

The Role

Based from their head office in Bristol they require an experienced Design Manager, from a principle main contractor background, to work on their food retail / supermarket construction and refurbishment projects nationwide.

Design Manager Key tasks include:
* Develop control and review all design information in line with ISO 9002 procedures
* Reviewing employers design requirements on receipt of contract
* Arranging the compilation and being responsible for the contractors design proposals
* Creating the design management plan
* Identifying responsibilities for design within the tender or subsequent contract
* Communicating and disseminating design information to the team, clearly defining the status of the design at each stage
* Selecting and appointing the design team in conjunction with the Key Account Manager
* Assessing the design teams suitability to the project
* Establishing and maintaining relationships with colleagues, project teams and customers at all times.

The Person

* Background in main construction, ideally in engineering required with some experience of live retail projects.
* The ideal candidate will be an ex Project Manager, or an ex Site Engineer who enjoys detail and design and who has moved into a Design Management role.
* Must have a working knowledge of on site operations (i.e. have worked as a SM/PM previously).
* Candidates with a pure Design background will not be considered
